What is Koliada?
“Koliada” is a traditional Ukrainian winter celebration, similar to Christmas caroling. Groups sing festive songs, visit homes, bring good wishes, and celebrate folk customs that symbolize the welcoming of the new year.

🍽️✨ Ukrainian Traditional Supper Workshop ✨🍽️
🗓 Date: Sunday, December 7
🕒 Time: 11:30 PM – 1:00 PM (1.5-hour workshop)
📍 Location: Irishtown Community Centre
Experience the rich flavors and traditions of Ukraine’s Holy Supper (Sviata Vecheria) — a cherished celebration of faith, family, and gratitude!
In Ukrainian tradition, 12 meatless Christmas dishes are served on Christmas Eve, representing the twelve apostles and honoring the blessings of the year. The meal begins when the first star appears in the sky, marking the birth of Christ.
Traditional dishes you’ll enjoy:
- Kutia (sweet wheat with honey & poppy seeds)
- Borsch
- Varenyky
- Holubtsi
- Mushrooms, fish, and more
- Uzvar (dried fruit compote)
Each dish is rich with meaning and symbolism, expressing harmony, abundance, and the unity of generations around the festive table.
During this 1.5-hour workshop, our knowledgeable instructor Lilia Symyrenko will guide you through the history, significance, and traditions behind each dish. Taste, learn, and celebrate Ukrainian culture in a truly immersive experience!
